LAKELAND - Mr. Alan Whittington, 69, passed away Friday, Oct. 24, 2014 in Lakeland of heart failure. Alan was born in Nov. 27, 1944 in Tifton, GA and was a longtime resident of Lakeland. As as a farmer, entrepreneur, and business owner, he took great pride in growing his Crimson Sweet watermelons and developing and patenting a time release coated fertilizer. Alan was a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church in Plant City, and a 1964 graduate of Fort Meade High School.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Lewis Whittington.
Alan is survived by his loving wife, Patsie Whittington, Lakeland, FL; sons, Alan Todd Whittington, Lakeland, FL, Michael Wade Whittington and wife Julie, Lakeland, FL; Christopher Robin Whittington and wife Jessica, Bartow, FL, and Kenneth lee Burchfield and wife Cathy, Greenback, TN; mother, Myrtice Whittington, Fort Meade, FL; brother, James Earl Whittington and wife Sofie, Bartow, FL; grandchildren, Reagan Cheyenne Whittington, Autumn Duvall, Cindy Moore, Scott Crum, Kristy Crum, Ricky Baine, Jim Crum, Dakota Moore, Katie Moore, Casey Burchfield, Cody Burchfield, Cory Burchfield, and Tyler Faulkner; nephews, Kevin Whittington and J.J. Whittington.
Memorial services will be held 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 29th, 2014 at the Full Gospel Church, Hwy. 17, Fort Meade, with Pastor Joe Bowls officiating.
