FORT MEADE – Mrs. Barbie Redden, 74, passed away Monday, February 1, 2021 in Lakeland, FL. Barbie was born January 23, 1947 in Bartow, FL and was a lifelong resident of Fort Meade. She was a 1966 graduate of Fort Meade High School, a homemaker and a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Fort Meade, where she worked in the nursery for many years. Caring for children was a God given gift to Barbie, and she is known and remembered for the caring of countless numbers of children in Fort Meade. Her ministry was shared through her church, helping to give each child a Christian start in life; and in her home baby sitting, where she tended to each child and loved them as her own.
Barbie was preceded in death by her parents, Merle W. and Shirley Chaney Waters, her brother, Donald Waters, uncle, Alroy Waters; and most recently, her sister, Marilyn E. Hancock.
She is survived by her loving husband, David L. Redden, Fort Meade, FL; daughters, Melisa Redden, Fort Meade, FL, Mendy Gunter and husband Lance, Winter Haven, FL; sister, Carolyn W. Flood and husband Ed, Fort Meade, FL; two grandchildren, Blake and Brantley; aunt, Juanita Waters; and several nieces and nephews.
