Cader "C.W." Altman

BOWLING GREEN - Mr. Cader "C.W." Altman, 87,  passed away Monday, August 18, 2014 in Sebring, FL.  Mr. Altman was born October 13, 1926 in Bowling Green, FL where he lived for many years.  He was seventeen years of age when he volunteered to serve in the U.S. Navy during WW II.  Mr. Altman received training to qualify as a United States Navy Air Crewman, skilled in air to air gunnery and long distance radio communication.  The atom bomb brought the war to an end, and his honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy soon followed.         After his military service, Mr. Altman enrolled at the University of Florida and earned an A.A. degree for his work in the general college courses and he finished college by enrolling in the college of agriculture at U.F.  Mr. Altman applied for, and was hired, as a rural mail carrier with the United States Postal Service.  He spent 32 years as a rural mail carrier, serving a rural mail route that originated in Bowling Green, FL and served rural residents in Polk, Hillsborough, Manatee and Hardee Counties.   After retiring from the USPS, he made his residence in the Charlotte County community of Cape Haze, FL for several years.   Mr. Altman returned to his home in the College Hill area of Hardee County and lived out his life as a Florida Ctirus Grower, where he was also a member of the American Legion.     Being of the Baptist faith, the Holy Bible was a guide and an inspiration in his life on earth.  In passing, he would say, "May the good Lord bless and keep you."   Farewell until we meet again.         Mr. Altman was preceded in death by his parents, Jewell Milton Altman and Annie Laura Cliett Altman, who was affectionately known to her grandchildren as "Nonnie", and his son, Richard M. Altman.     He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Jo Altman, Bowling Green, FL; sons, Vince Altman, Wauchula, FL, Mark Altman and his fiancee, Megan McKibben; grandchildren, Brett Altman and wife Genise, Hunter Altman and Hollie Altman; great-grandchildren, Lucas Altman and Jasper Altman.         Visitation will be held 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 22, 2014 at Hancock Funeral Home, 945 E. Broadway, Fort Meade.  Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Willie Gilliard officiating.   Interment will be in Bowling Green Cemetery, Bowling Green, FL.        Hancock Funeral Home, Fort Meade, FL  863-285-8171
