BOWLING GREEN - Mr. Charles Houston Sanders, 79, passed away peacefully at his home in Bowling Green, FL on Sunday, December 22, 2019. Mr. Sanders was born May 13, 1940 in Eclectic, AL, and raised in Talladega, AL where he graduated from high school, and then went on to join the United States Navy. Mr. Sanders was a U.S. Navy veteran retiring from the U.S. Navy after a 20 year tenure as a Chief Petty Officer and working as an Air Traffic Controller at the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, FL. Following his Navy career, he moved to Bowling Green in 1976 and graduated from the University of West Florida with an accounting and finance degree and operated his own accounting business, Charles Sanders Accounting, in Hardee County, FL for many years. He was an active working member of First Baptist Church of Bowling Green, FL and served as Sunday School and Training Union Superintendent, very active in the church mission program, and he carried his mission work into other fields, serving on the Board of Directors for Habitat for Humanity.
Mr. Sanders was preceded in death by his parents, Neil and Maude Bennett Sanders; son, Steven Patrick Sanders; daughter, Donna Elizabeth Sanders; and brother, Phillip Sanders.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Mrs. Mary Ann Nicholson Sanders, Bowling Green, FL; daughter, Jennifer Suzanne Sanders, Herndon, VA; brother, Max Sanders, Jackson Hole, AL; sisters, Margie Dison and Lou Neal Sanders, both of Talladega, AL; grandchildren, Jessie Brooks and husband Michael, Loxahatchee, FL, and Melissa Sanders, Rincon, GA; great-grandchildren, Easton, Jordan, Steven, Kobie, Kato, and Annuni.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 27, 2019 at the First Baptist Church of Bowling Green, FL, with funeral services following in the church sanctuary at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Scott Tharp and Rev. Roland Davis officiating. Interment will follow with veteran honors in the Bowling Green Cemetery.
