Dewey Edward Lane, Sr.

FORT MEADE - Mr. Dewey Edward Lane, Sr., 89, passed away Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at Good Shepherd Hospice in Auburndale, FL.   Mr. Lane was born September 26, 1934  in Manatee County, FL , and has been a resident of Fort Meade nearly his entire life.   He worked in the trucking and transportation business for many years, and was a U.S. Army Veteran.  During his military service, he served in Panama and later remaining in the Army Reserves.  Mr. Lane was also a 1952 graduate of Summerlin Institute in Bartow, and a former employee of the Polk County Sheriff’s Dept.  Mr. Lane loved to work and stay busy, and was an entrepreneur in many business areas.

​He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Lane, the mother of his children, Vonceil Hurst Lane,  and his sister, June Hathaway,

Mr. Lane is survived by his son, Dewey Edward Lane, Jr.; daughter, Michelle Lane Linton and husband Chris, all of Fort Meade, FL; sister, Dot Haddox; grandchildren, Dakota Linton and Bryson Linton; several nieces and nephews and great=nieces and great=nephews.  

​Visitation will be held Monday, Oct. 2, 2023 from 1:30 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. at the New Beginnings Church of God, Hwy. 98, East, Fort Meade.  A Celebration of Life service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary with Pastor Larry Barrentine officiating . A private interment with family only, will take place Monday morning in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Fort Meade.
