FORT MEADE - Mr. Donald Dykes, 73, passed away Sunday, February 8, 2015 at his home. Mr. Dykes was born February 18, 1941 in Ashford, AL to his parents, James and Ruby Bradshaw Dykes, and has been a resident of Fort Meade, FL for many years. He retired after 29 years of service from U.S. Steel as a maintenance mechanic, and Mr. Dykes had a passion for horses, and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was a member of the River Riders, a Fort Meade Dixie Youth Little League coach, and participated in the Florida Flywheelers. Mr. Dykes attended Auburndale High School and was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife, Martha P. Dykes, Fort Meade, FL; sons, Raymond Dykes and wife Colleen, Lakeland, FL, Ronnie Dykes and wife Tina, Key Largo, FL, Mitchell Dykes and wife Dione, Polk City, FL, and Gary Dykes, Auburndale, FL; brothers, Kenneth Dykes, Auburndale, FL and David Dykes, Lake Alfred, FL; sister, Bobbie Jean Carroll, Auburndale, FL; grandchildren, Stephanie DeVane, Ashley Dykes, Travis Dykes, Branden Dykes, Eleanor Dykes, Rebecca Dykes, Kyle Dykes, Andrew Dykes and Camdon Dykes; great-grandchildren, Avery Lopez, Madeline DeVane and Caroline DeVane. The family would like to express their appreciation to Cornerstone Hospice for the care they gave to Mr. Dykes and to his family.
Visitation will be held 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., Thursday, February 12, 2015 at Hancock Funeral Home, 945 East Broadway, Fort Meade, FL. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
