BARTOW - Mr. Duane C. Peacock, 87, passed away Thursday, March 11, 2021 at his home in Bartow, FL. Mr. Peacock was born February 1, 1934 in Fort Meade, FL, and had been a resident of Bartow since 1965. He was the retired Area Superintendent for Polk County Schools, and earlier in his career, Mr. Peacock returned to Fort Meade High School to teach, mentor, and give back to the upcoming youth of Fort Meade High School. It was because of his devotion to his career of education that, many years later, he was inducted into the Fort Meade High School Hall of Fame. Mr. Peacock also taught Bartow High School, where he also coached track and field as he did in Fort Meade, and won state championships at both schools. He was graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor's degree, University of Southern Mississippi with a Master's degree, and then went on to become a United States Army veteran, and a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Bartow.
Mr. Peacock was preceded in death by his parents, Verne C. and Edith Hancock Peacock; his loving wife of 64 years, Audrey Moody Peacock, and his sister, June P. Shirley.
He is survived by his son, Jay Peacock and wife Jean, Frostproof, FL; daughter, Susan Peacock and husband Mike Gleaton, Atlanta, GA; sister, Connie Jones and husband Rick, Brookesville, FL; grandchildren, Elizabeth Peacock and fiance, Bryan Bulman, Tampa, FL, Jason Peacock and wife Paula, Texarkana, TX, Meredith Peacock, Bartow, FL; and three great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 20, 2021 at Hancock Cemetery, Hancock Cemetery Rd., Fort Meade, FL.
