FORT MEADE - Ernestine Polk Cannon, 82, passed away Saturday, April 9, 2022 in Avon Park, FL. Ernestine was born May 24, 1939 in Frostproof, FL, and was a resident of Fort Meade for many years. She was a homemaker, member of Avon Park Lakes Baptist Church, and a longtime Sunday School teacher and children's and youth mentor at First Baptist Church of Fort Meade. Ernestine loved her church life, and she was instrumental in coordinating many summer mission trips for the Good Seed of FBC, Fort Meade.
Ernestine was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver Howard Polk and Geraldine Elizabeth Lewis Polk; husband, Wayne Cannon, Sr.; daughter, Sandra Kay Perry; three brothers, and one sister.
She is survived by her sons, Solomon Wayne Cannon and wife Susan, and Joseph Allen Cannon, all of Fort Meade; daughter, Kimberly Dawn Helms and husband Mike, Avon Park, FL; sisters, Minnie Lee Johnson, Mary Ann Cannon and Juanita Waters; ten grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 14, 2022 at Hancock Funeral Home, 945 E. Broadway, Fort Meade, FL. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Kenny Slay officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Fort Meade.
