WAUCHULA – Mr. George Warren Gibbs of Wauchula, FL passed away on November 5, 2023 at the age of 82.  Warren was born to Clarence and Esther Gibbs on October 27, 1941 in Polk County,, FL.   In addition to his beloved parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Elaine McFarland, and brother, Henry Gibbs. After graduating from Hardee High School, Warren enlisted in the Army National Guard where he received numerous medals, including sharp shooting. He was a longtime employee of Peace River Electric Cooperative and retired after 30+ years of dedicated service.

     As a native Floridian, Warren enjoyed a southern lifestyle which consisted of raising cattle, growing and harvesting hay, working in his citrus nursery, and hunting. He was an accomplished horseman who loved open pastures, country
living, and southern cooking. Warren often kept a seat warm at the Pioneer Restaurant, where he enjoyed the fried catfish and the conversations with old friends. Warren will be especially remembered for his extremely generous spirit. It brought him great pleasure to help out those in need, even in times of personal hardship. Warren will also be remembered for his boisterous personality and his loud and distinctive laughter.

     He is survived by his wife, Susan Knight Gibbs, his daughter, Sherri Alane Kouns and husband Todd; son, James Warren Gibbs; granddaughter, Savannah Leigh Burkholder and husband Zack; great-grandson, Desmond Presley Burkholder.

     Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 9, 2023 at Hancock Funeral Home, 945 East Broadway, Fort Meade, FL. Funeral services will follow in the funeral home chapel at 10:30 a.m. with Mr. Steve Lanier officiating. Warren will be laid to rest alongside his beloved parents and his brother at Bowling Green Cemetery, and his family finds comfort in this heavenly reunion.

     In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting any love offerings in Warren’s honor to be made to: Good Shepard Hospice, 1110 Hammock Road, Sebring, FL 33870 or to St. Jude’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
