FORT MEADE - Mr. George L. Wadsworth, Sr., 83, passed away Wednesday, September 30, 2020 in Sebring, FL. Mr. Wadsworth was born September 8, 1937 in Wauchula, FL, resided there many years before moving to Fort Meade seven and a half years ago. He was a Farm Bureau Insurance Agency Manager, a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Wauchula, and an avid hunter and fisherman. Mr. Wadsworth was a graduate of Hardee High School, Class of 1956 and attended Florida Southern College in Lakeland on a basketball scholarship, where he was also on the ping pong team and a member of the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. He was a member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, National Wild Turkey Federation, Safari Club International, National Rifle Assoc., and a lifetime member of the Elks Club.
Mr. Wadsworth was preceded in death by his parents, William Leslie and Billie B. Wadsworth, and his first wife, Judith E. Wadsworth.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Winnie Gordon Wadsworth, Fort Meade, FL; son, George L. Wadsworth, Jr., Wauchula, FL; daughter, Kelly Wadsworth Moye (Matt), Winter Haven, FL; step-children, Greg Gordon (Reggie), Suzanne Gordon Hamar (Dave), and Pete Gordon (Angie); brother, William L. Wadsworth (Joan); cousins, Ken Carithers (Mary), Billie Sue Johnson (Joey), and Carolyn Lomax (Dr. Scott); eleven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 4, 2020 from the graveside in Wauchula Cemetery, Wauchula, FL with pastors Jim Davis, Darin Canary, and hymns led by Marcus Shackelford. In lieu of flowers, for those wishing, contributions may be made in Mr. Wadsworth's memory to: Oak Grove Baptist Church, 4350 West Main St., Wauchula, FL 33873.
