Mrs. Helen E. Knight, 96, passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2021 in Winter Haven, FL. Helen was born June 28, 1924 in Fort Meade, FL, and was the oldest surviving granddaughter of Irish immigrants and Fort Meade pioneers, Luke B. and Alicia Whitney Flood, and the daughter of Joseph George Flood and Amanda Wilson Flood. She was a retired secretary for the City of Bartow, where she was a resident for many years, a 1941 graduate of Fort Meade High School, a graduate of Tampa Business College; and Helen was also a member of McLeod Memorial Presbyterian Church of Bartow and a member of First Baptist Church of Bartow.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, James R. Knight; brothers, Quinton Flood, Seidel Flood, Edward C. Flood; sisters, Juanita Bradford, Marietta Strayhorn; and son-in-law, Charles Adams.
Helen is survived by her son, Bob Ellington and wife Jean; daughters, Marilyn Adams, Patricia Bryan and husband Paul, and Jeannie Ruster and husband Don; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 15, 2021 at Hancock Funeral Home, 945 E. Broadway, Fort Meade, FL. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. from the graveside in Evergreen Cemetery, Fort Meade.
