FORT MEADE - Mr. Henry C. Bass, 93, passed away Wednesday, December 19, 2018 in Winter Haven, FL. Mr. Bass was born April 28, 1925 in Bartow, FL, and was a lifelong resident of Fort Meade. He was a retired independent commercial truck driver, and of the Church of God faith. Mr. Bass graduated Fort Meade High School in 1943, and soon after graduation, he went on to join the United States Navy and proudly served his country during World War II aboard the U.S. Naval Warship, USS Bowers. - DE637. He was also a former member of Fort Meade American Legion Post #23, and loved to spend anytime he could, fishing on one of the several lakes on Fort Meade's outskirts.
Mr. Bass was preceded in death by his parents, Pearlie Deams Bass and Bonnie Bell Bradley Bass; spouses, Pearl Cook Bass and Louise Short Bass; sons, Mannie Bass, and Frankie Johnson; grandson, Lee Henry Pollard; great-grandchildren, Ronnie Lynn Bass, III, and Jamie Lee Bass; brother, George Bass; sisters, Mittie Bass, Bonnie Sue Bass, Alice Boyd, and Louise Gold.
He is survived by his son, Ronnie Lynn Bass, Sr., Fort Meade, FL; daughter, Mary Ann Pollard and husband Gerald, Mims, FL; daughter-in-law, Shirley Bass, Fort Meade, FL; sister, Abizelle Pridgen and husband Glenn, Jacksonville, FL; seven grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m., Saturday, December 22, 2018 at Hancock Funeral Home, 945 E. Broadway, Fort Meade. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Andy Pollard officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Fort Meade.
