FORT MEADE - Mr. Herbert M. Mizell, 91, passed away at his home in Fort Meade on Friday, May 13, 2022. Mr. Mizell was born October 24, 1930 in Chicora, FL, and he was raised in Nichols, FL where he attended school and has been a resident of Fort Meade for many years. He retired from Estech Chemical Co. after a long tenure of over 40 years, working as a train engineer and conductor and heavy equipment operator, and he was also a longtime cowboy, working with Mr. Woodrow Hancock at the W.W. Hancock Ranch. Mr. Mizell was a longtime member of the Oak Park Baptist church where he served as usher and supervised the church campus maintenance.
Mr. Mizell was preceded in death by his parents, James Jackson Mizell and Elizzie Alderman Mizell; grandson, Joseph Dempsey; brothers, J.C. Mizell and Nolan Mizell; and his sister, Louise Colding.
He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Florene T. Mizell, Fort Meade, FL; son, James "Buddy" Mizell and wife Kathy, Fort Meade, FL; daughters, Linda Sharpe and husband Ron, Gail Bates and husband Jimmy, all of Lakeland, FL, and Michelle Cooley and husband Darren, Port St. Lucie, FL; grandchildren, Ashley Mizell, Brandi Mizell, Jessica Schilling, Krystal Gail Heggemeier, Daniel Cooley, Jennifer Cooley, Amanda Lawson, Vickie Snyder, Joseph Lawson, Michael King, and Chucky Vermilye; twenty great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Sunday, May 15, 2022 at Oak Park Baptist Church, 615 Olandt Ave., Fort Meade. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday May 16, 2022 at Oak Park Baptist Church, with interment following in Evergreen Cemetery, Fort Meade.
