FORT MEADE - Mr. James Lemuel Brantley, 73, passed away Sunday, November 14, 2021 at the James A. Haley Veterans Hospital in Tampa, FL. Mr. Brantley was born August 10, 1948 in Bartow, FL and was a lifelong resident of Fort Meade. He retired from the Polk County Sheriff Office Law Enforcement Division after a long 36 year tenure, and was also a United States Army Veteran. Mr. Brantley was an avid fisherman and hunter; a graduate of Fort Meade High School, Class of 1967; a member of the Fort Meade V.F.W. #11179; and a member of Steinhatchee American Legion, Post #291.
He was preceded in death by his parents, M.O. and Mary Frances Bowers Brantley, and his sister, Mary Marc Brantley.
Mr. Brantley is survived by his loving wife, Mary Jane Hall Brantley, Fort Meade, FL; son, Jon Marc Brantley and wife Michelle, Suwanee, GA; daughter, Suzette Jeanine Brantley, Vista, CA; grandchildren, Jon Marc Brantley, Jr., James Brantley, Katie Brantley, Chloe Yantis Brianna Brault; and one great-grandson, Jon Marc Brantley, III.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 20, 2021 at the First United Methodist Church, 135 E. Broadway, Fort Meade. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the church sanctuary with PCSO Chaplain Marvin Pittman officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Fort Meade.
