FORT MEADE - Mr. John Glynn Bourn, 33, passed away Mon., July 15, 2013 in Lake Wales due to injuries sustained in an auto accident. John was born Sept. 21, 1979 in Bartow, FL, and was a longtime resident of Bowling Green before moving to Fort Meade. He worked for Duke Energy in Lake Wales as a substation electrician. John was a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church of Fort Meade where he served as a deacon, sound technician, youth leader and remained very active in the church in any way that was needed. He was a graduate of Fort Meade High School, Class of 1998, and during high school John was active in the band, FFA, golf team, baseball and football teams, and attended the American Legion Boys State. John was a coach for the Frostproof Dixie Youth Baseball teams, and was also a very avid fisherman and hunter. He played the role of father to many children other than his own, who needed his loving mannerisms to care for them. In his younger years, John also helped his parents in their family business, Farm and Home Hardware in Fort Meade.
John was preceded in death by his father, Alton Wheeler Bourn; maternal grandparents, William Everett and Dixie Lee Mott; paternal grandparents, Rev. John and Sadie Bourn, and several aunts and uncles.
He is survived by his loving wife, Amber Smith Bourn; sons, Hunter Alton Bourn and Colten Gauge Bourn; daughter, Brooke Aleise Bourn, all of Fort Meade, FL; mother, Jeanette M. Bourn, Bowling Green, FL; brother, William Alton "Bill" Bourn and wife Cynthia, Fort Meade, FL; father and mother-in-law, Robert W. and Linda Northup Smith, Fort Meade, FL; brothers-in-law, Chad Smith, Dublin, GA and Travis Smith, Fort Meade, FL; grandmother, Fern Northup, Fort Meade, FL and several aunts and uncles.
Visitation will be held 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Thurs., July 18, 2013 at Hancock Funeral Home, 945 East Broadway, Fort Meade, FL. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 19, 2013 at the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, 6210 Mt. Pisgah Road, Fort Meade, FL with Rev. Joey Taylor, Rev. Joe Parrish and Rev. Buck Mott officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those wishing, may make donations to the Youth Fund of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church.
