FORT MEADE - Mr. Joseph C. "Jody" Cannon, 89, passed away Thursday June 6, 2024 in Lakeland, FL. Mr. Cannon was born October 27, 1934 in Palmetto, FL, and has been a longtime resident of Fort Meade. He was associated with C.D. Cannon & Sons Well Drilling and David Cannon Well Drilling. Mr. Cannon was a graduate of Florida Christian High School, attended Florida College and the University of Florida, later receiving his MBA degree from the University of South Florida. He was one of the first in the entire United States to pass his certification to become a Master Ground Water Contractor, and serving as past President of the Florida Water Well Drillers Association. Mr. Cannon was also a former member of the Fort Meade Rotary Club and a member of the Fort Meade Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, C.D. and Nettie Pratt Cannon, and his four siblings.
Mr. Cannon is survived by his loving wife, Norma C. Cannon, Fort Meade, FL; son, Joe Cannon, Bokeelia, FL; daughter, Jeannie Balentine and husband David, Temple Terrace, FL; grandchildren, Benjamin Balentine and Emily Balentine; numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held Saturday, June 22, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. at Hancock Funeral Home, 945 E. Broadway, Fort Meade, FL. A memorial services will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Bruce Hudson and Randy Murphey officiating.
