FORT MEADE – Mr. Joseph James Gallagher, Jr., 90, passed away Sunday, July 16, 2017 in Lakeland, FL. Mr. Gallagher was born June 4, 1927 in Camden, NJ and was a resident of Florida for 40 years. He moved to Fort Meade from Lakeland in 1999, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Fort Meade and the Fort Meade America Legion, Post #23. He was the owner of J.J. Gallagher Trucking and Trash Removal in Cherry Hill, NJ, a member of the Camden County, NJ Iron Rock Country Club for 25 years and served as the club chairman for 10 years. Mr. Gallagher also served as the Assistant Pro at the Tavistock Country Club, and sponsored many high school baseball teams of Camden Co., New Jersey. Mr. Gallagher was a very kind and generous man who loved to help anyone he could, and those in need.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph James Gallagher, Sr. and Frances Zoble Gallagher; wife Theresa Joyce Gallagher; sons, Joseph Carl Gallagher and James Michael Gallagher.
Mr. Gallagher is survived by his brothers and sisters, Charles Gallagher, Gloster, NJ; Robert Gallagher, Hanover, PA; Elizabeth Hess, Merchanville, NJ, D. Michael Gallagher and wife Rosa Lee, Cape May, NJ, Dean Gallagher and wife Marcie, Ridgeland, SC, Pete Gallagher and wife Lynn, Manchuria, NJ, Cora Disimone, Pennsauken, NJ, and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held Sunday, July 30, 2017 during the 11 a.m. worship service of the First United Methodist Church, 135 E. Broadway, Fort Meade, FL, and services in New Jersey will be announced in the upcoming weeks.
Contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Fort Meade in Mr. Gallagher’s memory, or to a charity of choice.
