FORT MEADE - Mrs. Loretta Hendrick Handley, 93, passed away Sat., June 22, 2013 in Lakeland of heart failure. Mrs. Handley was born in Andrews, NC on May 1, 1920 and was a longtime Fort Meade resident before moving to Punta Gorda, FL in the early 1980's. She was a homemaker, member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church of Fort Meade, and attended East Side Baptist Church in Punta Gorda. During her many years at Mt. Pisgah Baptist she served as a WMU officer, Sunday School teacher, Bible School teacher and choir member. Along with being a wonderful seamstress and cook, Mrs. Handley also loved flowers, photography, fishing and traveling.
Mrs. Handley was preceded in death by her first husband, Bun Hendrick and her second husband, Bob Handley; son-in-law, Zebbie Gillispie, and several brothers and sisters. She is survived by her son, Paul Hendrick and wife Kim, Bartow, FL; daughters, Paulette Gillispie, Fort Meade, FL, and Charlene Henderson and her husband John, Lugoff, SC; step-son, Dennis Handley, The Villages, FL; brothers, Clyde Kelley, Mississippi and Kenneth Kelley, Fort Meade, FL; sisters, Ruby Jean Gramling, Ona Mae Shoupe and Betty Kate Delaney, all of Mississippi; grandchildren, Sheila Dolinger, K.C. Brewington, M.D., Zachary Hendrick, Jillian Hendrick, Z. Gillispie, Amanda Mixon and eight great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m., Wed., June 26, 2013 at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, Ft. Meade. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Joey Taylor and Rev. Rick Rodriquez officiating. Hancock Funeral Home, Fort Meade 863-285-8171
