FORT MEADE - Mrs. Martha Annette Pierce, 78, passed away Friday, March 15, 2013 at Bartow Regional Medical Center of heart failure. Mrs. Pierce was born on August 13, 1934 in Enterprise, Alabama and she was a lifelong resident of Fort Meade. Mrs. Pierce was a sectionizer for Ben Hill Griffin, Inc. and after her retirement she worked with the Polk County School Board as a school bus attendant. She was a member of Oak Park Baptist Church, and was known by her family as the best mother, grandmother and cook in the world. Mrs. Pierce was preceded in death by her parents, Vester Donaldson and Areada Bass, daughter, Barbara Allgood, brother, Guy Bass and sister, Jean Wingard. She is survived by her husband, James "Wormy" Pierce, Fort Meade, FL; daughters, Sandy Shiver and husband Ronnie and Martha Harris and husband Lennie, all of Fort Meade, FL; brothers, David Bass, Fort Meade, FL, Roy Bass, Bartow, FL; sisters, Doris Dyal and Hellon Raines, both of Arcadia, FL; sister-in-law, Sandi Bass, Fort Meade, FL; grandchildren, Annette Crews, Brandy Skinner, Wesley Kerst and Billy Kerst; eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held 6:00pm - 8:00p.m, Monday, March 18, 2013 at Hancock Funeral Home, 945 East Broadway, Fort Meade. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at the Hancock Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ron Draper and Rev. Billy Newell officiating.
