FORT MEADE - Mrs. Mary Ellen Hancock, 83, passed away at her home in Fort Meade on Thursday, January 2, 2020. Mrs. Hancock was born April 2, 1936 in Nichols, FL and was a longtime resident of Fort Meade. She was a homemaker, member of the First Baptist Church of Fort Meade, and a member of the graduating class of 1954 of Fort Meade High School.
Mrs. Hancock was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Montine Barwick Olive; brother, Jimmy Olive; sisters, Pat McNair and Joyce Hall; and brother-in-law, Oliver Slay.
She is survived by her husband, Vernon E. Hancock, Fort Meade, FL; son, Lee Hancock and wife Sarah, Avon Park, FL; daughter, Lois Hancock, Asheville, NC; half-brother, H.L. Olive, Plant City, FL; sisters-in-law, Paula S. Olive, Margie Slay, Katherine Shirley and husband Mack; brother-in-law, Kenneth Hancock and wife Janet, all of Fort Meade, FL.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 6, 2020 at the First Baptist Church, 307 E. Broadway, Fort Meade. Memorial services will follow in the church sanctuary at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Kenny Slay officiating.
