FORT MEADE - Mrs. Maxine Russell Hancock, 99, passed away of congestive heart failure on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at her home in Fort Meade. Mrs. Hancock was born in Tiger Bay, FL on November 7, 1914, and moved to Fort Meade in 1934 with her husband, Woodrow Hancock, where she devoted her life to her husband and children. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Fort Meade, Fort Meade Historical Society, and held a lifetime membership to the Polk County Historical Association. Mrs. Hancock was a former member of the Fort Meade Garden Club, and a graduate of Fort Meade High School, Class of 1932. Mrs. Hancock was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow W. Hancock, Sr., and by her parents, Ira Russell and Beulah Russell Mock. She is survived by her daughters, Sandra H. Mitchell, Winter Haven, FL and Karen Hancock, Leland, NC; son, Woodrow W. Hancock, Jr., Prescott, AZ; brother, Edmund H. Russell, Lenexa, KS; sister Valda Mock Robinson and husband Chase, Tampa, FL. Visitation will be held at the Hancock Funeral Home, 945 E. Broadway in Fort Meade on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Kenny Slay officiating.
