FORT MEADE - Mrs. Violet Rowell Sheffield, 96, passed away Wednesday, May 17, 2023 in Winter Haven, FL. Mrs. Sheffield was born June 10, 1926 in the Tilghman/Tiger Bay area of Fort Meade, FL, and remained a very active lifelong resident of Fort Meade. She graduated Fort Meade High School in 1945, and went on to be an active part of her husband's business and helping to manage the bookkeeping of Sheffield Plumbing & Electric, In addition to Mrs. Sheffield's work, she loved taking care of her family, was an active member of the Fort Meade Historical Society, loved spending time with her friends clogging, and her most favorite sport of all, fishing! She loved to fish and used her catch to help feed her family and friends, which took place at many church socials where she was an active member of the First Church of God in Fort Meade.
Mrs. Sheffield was preceded in death by her parents, Chester A. and Maggie Thomas Rowell; husband, Carlos "Cobb" Sheffield; brother Jake; and sisters, Opal, Ruby, Evelyn and Betty Nell.
She is survived by her son, John Sheffield and wife Suzette, Chicora, FL; sisters, Joan Stanford and husband Orland, Bay Springs, Miss., and Sandra Manley, Bartow, FL; loving brother-in-law Paul J. Sheffield and wife June; grandchildren, Chet Sheffield and wife Danielle, Patrick Sheffield, Maggie Code and husband Jordan; great-grandchildren, Violet, Caleb and Mason.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at the First Church of God, 215 S. Perry Ave., Fort Meade, FL. Funeral services will follow at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Tyler Kenney officiating. Interment will be in Bethlehem Cemetery, Chicora, FL.
