LAKELAND - Mr. M. Walker Driskell, 97, passed away at his home Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013 of heart failure. Mr. Driskell was born May 22, 1916 in Taylor County, Georgia, and moved to Lakeland from Fort Meade, FL in 1973. He was a retired maintenance supervisor for Swift & Co. and of the Baptist faith. Mr. Driskell was a WW II U.S. Navy Veteran serving in the C.B's, and after his service in the Navy, Mr. Driskell was a member of the Civilian Construction Corps helping to build national parks throughout the United States. Woodworking and fishing were two of Mr. Driskell's favorite hobbies, and he continued to practice his woodworking skills until his death. Mr. Driskell was preceded in death by his son, Tommy Driskell and brothers, Woodrow Driskell, Willard Driskell and Dudley Driskell. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Lessie Douglas Driskell, Lakeland, FL; daughter, Susan Driskell Cannon and husband Wayne, Fort Meade, FL; step-son, Jimmy O'Steen and wife Gwen, Lakeland, FL; step-daughters, Pam Addison, Lakeland, FL, Gail Davis and husband John, Townsend, TN, Sharon Grant and husband Mark, Ft. Myers, FL; daughter-in-law, Donna Driskell, Fort Meade, FL; twelve grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held 2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013 at Hancock Funeral Home, 945 East Broadway, Fort Meade, with funeral services following at 3:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
