FORT MEADE - Mr. William Harvey Day, passes away Monday, February 24, 2020 at his home in Fort Meade, FL. Mr. Day was born March 28, 1925 in Henegar, AL and has been a resident of Fort Meade for many years. He was a WW II U.S. Navy veteran, serving as a gunman on the USS Kasan Bay Aircraft Carrier, and retired for the Polk County Board of County Commissioners as a heavy equipment operator. Mr. Day also operated Days Used Cars in Fort Meade, and attended Oak Park Baptist Church in Fort Meade. He loved to spend his spare time fishing and his admiration of old cars.
Mr. Day was preceded in death by his parents, William J. and Ethel Brooks Day; grandson, Aaron Skipper; two brothers and two sisters.
He is survived by his loving wife Yvonne P. Day, Fort Meade, FL; sons, Gary Day and wife Patsy, Sebring, FL and David Day and wife Wanda, Wauchula, FL; grandchildren, Cole Day, Jared Skipper, and Jason Skipper; several great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. -11:00 a.m., Friday, February 28, 2020 at Hancock Funeral Home, 945 East Broadway, Fort Meade. Memorial services will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel.
