William B. "Bert" Kerst, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and respected member the community, passed on July 16, 2024 in Sebring, Florida. Born on March 12, 1955, in Bartow, Florida, Bert led a fulfilling life that touched the hearts of all who knew him. Bert dedicated 34 years of his life as a Repairman for U.S. Agri-Chem, showcasing his strong work ethic and commitment to his career. In addition to his professional accomplishments, he also proudly served in the U.S. Naval Reserves as a mechanic stationed in various states. He was a graduate of Hardee County High School in 1973, and a devoted family and an avid fisherman who found solace by the water. As a proud member of the New Beginnings Church of God in Fort Meade, Bert's faith was a guiding light in his life. His involvement in the church community reflected his compassionate nature and willingness to help others.
Those who had the privilege of knowing Bert will always remember him for his kind heart and unwavering dedication to those he loved. In addition to his unforgettable personality, Bert will be fondly remembered for his passion for fishing and spending quality time with his loved ones.
He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur W. and Betty King Kerst as well as by his sons, Billy Kerst and Wesley Kerst. He is also preceded by his mother-in-law, Beraldine Smith; brothers-in-law, Tony Spoon and Walter Reed, and grandson, Hunter Kerst.
Bert is survived by his loving wife, Nancy S. Kerst; daughter-in-law, Darlene Kerst Bell and husband Lee; father-in-law, Clarence Smith; brothers-in-law, Danny Smith and wife Carol, Michael Smith and Randy Ulses; sisters, Libby Spoon and Stacy Reed; sister-in-law Penny Smith; grandchildren, Zachary, Courtney, Clayton, Riley, Colton; several nieces and nephews, including Katie Frey; and several great-nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held to honor Bert's life at the New Beginnings Church of God in Fort Meade on August 10th, 2024. The service will begin at 11:00 AM followed by a luncheon and a time of remembrance with the family. For those wishing, memorial contributions may be made in Bert's memory to the Good Shepherd Hospice Veterans Valor Program.
